More Good News

The day before Wyatt's 2nd surgery they let us pick him up in the bed for the first time.

I left a disposable camera (did not result in many pictures that were good), and they took a picture of him getting his EKG.

On to the good news!!!!
Wyatt was extubated Friday and placed on nasal CPAP. Here is a picture in all his glory. I really think he thought they were trying to kill him with the CPAP.
He was changed to a nasal cannula today. I think he is afraid his sister is getting ahead of him.

It is amazing how fast they are growing. If you look at the first 3 picture and the last 3 (they are 1 week apart) you can really see the difference. Praise God, we have so much to be thankful for!!!!

Current weight: 3 pounds 5 ounces

A Bailey Post

Bailey is still on a high flow nasal cannula, and as of today she is getting 7 ccs of milk every 3 hours. She has spells where she drops her heart rate very low, and she has to be stimulated to recover.
We are still waiting for our camera to come back from repair so pictures are few and far between. One of the nurses took pictures last week of Bailey and emailed them to me. They were all so cute. Enjoy.....

You gotta love that thumb.

Big Updates

Sorry I did not update earlier, but I have definitely been busy. On Friday Bailey was extubated again and placed on CPAP. We hope the 3rd time is the charm.

Friday on CPAP
My first time ever holding Bailey!!! She has been very sensitive to light, touch, and sound, but when I held her she did wonderful. She had the best oxygen sats I had ever seen.

More big news is that on Sunday she was taken off the CPAP and put on a nasal cannula. The nurse was so excited to show me that she had put her first shirt on her.

Wyatt continues to maintain and not really go anywhere on the ventilator. We hope to see an improvement soon. It makes my heart break to see him not do as well as Bailey.

I managed to bribe the nurse into letting Tyler into see Wyatt. I told her about it being my birthday on Wednesday, and that all I wanted for my birthday was to have Tyler come in and see him. Tyler did so well. It meant the world to me to see my two boys in the same room together.

Wyatt's 2nd Surgery

Wyatt had a 2nd bowel surgery today. The problem all started when I saw him on Wednesday. I immediately noticed how swollen his stomach was and I had a fit. They were even still feeding him with his stomach swollen. The surgeon was called in, and Wyatt went for test on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Surgery was going to be on Sunday then Monday. On Monday we were mad, and the staff were embarrassed by all that had gone on. It was the craziest mess I had ever seen. We finally had surgery today and the news was very good. He had a stricture and bowel obstruction at the site of his ostomy and no bowel had to be removed. I am so glad I had a fit on Wednesday because if they had continued to feed him it would have probably perforated and that would have been very bad. We thank God that everything went so well.

Saturday through Monday were bad days for Bailey. She was having oxygen and heart rate problems. While I was there Sunday night her sats dropped to 35% and she had heart rate decels. Her heart rate then went into the 200s. I told them I would need to sit down because I was getting light headed. It is very hard to watch this go on with your child. It certainly does not help that I am in the medical field, and I know what is happening. Her heart rate was still up the next morning so they discontinued some of her meds. This has seemed to help, and she had a better day today.

Today's weights:
Wyatt 2 pounds 15 ounces
Bailey 2 pounds 3 ounces

Thanks to everyone for their continued prays and please keep them coming.

Bailey

Finally I managed to get some pictures of Bailey.

That is not a happy face. She is mad because they lifted the top of her bed so we could get some pictures.

Another Long Weekend

Thursday and Friday were very hard days and in the preemie world they were some of the many "bad days." Wyatt was having issues keeping his blood pressure up and had to be started on dopamine. He then had problems with his lungs and had to have his ventilator settings increased and his endotracheal tube (tube in the lungs) changed out. Thankfully by the time we got there Saturday morning he was doing better.
Bailey has given us a scare with her belly. She is on "NEC watch." It is the same intestinal issues that Wyatt had surgery for, but her infection has been caught early. She is on antibiotics and we hope this takes care of the problem.
Both babies had a good day on Saturday and Sunday. Wyatt now weighs 2 lb 7 oz, and Bailey weighs 1 lb 15 oz.

I thought I had our camera fixed but unfortunately it is still not focusing. We were unable to take pictures, but the nurses in Birmingham took pictures of Wyatt and emailed them to me. I hope to get some of Bailey soon.

Tyler and Brianne

Before I was put on strict bed rest we managed to go see Toy Story 1and 2. The kids loved it, but it was a little too much time watching kids movies for Lee and I. Tyler and Brianne enjoyed looking at the flowers before we left for the movies. Tyler had his Woody man for the movies.

Mr Steve and Tyler put his bird food that he made at school in the tree.

Who ever heard of a 3 year old wanting to be a power ranger? She could not wait till Tyler got home so they could fight.
Wednesday night we went to a festival for Halloween. The kids loved it and by the end Brianne had it all figured out.

Today's pictures of Wyatt:
